So here I was, off again on another road trip!
Not too far from Delhi lies Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (now called Keoledeo Bird Sanctuary). Situated at a distance of 227 kms from Delhi in the state of Rajasthan, this is a bird enthusiast’s dream come true. In the migration season, which is now (Oct to Feb), you will witness varied species of birds. Painted Stork, Spoonbill, Cormorants are just a few that you will find in great numbers here, nesting & caring for their young. Apart from birds you will also witness other flora & fauna.
With a weekend here, we chose to stay at the Heritage hotel, Laxmi Vilas Palace. It is a 120 year old palace turned into a hotel. (Review of the hotel here). Day one was all about relaxing and enjoying the massive property with the highlight being the really clean open air swimming pool. A lot of swimming on a hot October day never hurt anyone right.
Day two was all about the wildlife around. Setting out early in the morning to visit the bird sanctuary. I earlier though we’d walk, but it’s a really really long walk and so it is best to hire the cycle rickshaw that ploughs in the sanctuary. I would definitely recommend hiring a guide for your time inside the park because if you’re not aware of different species of birds you may not enjoy the sightings as much. Luckily for us we got a really nice guide who’d been working there for 15 long years and knew so much about each species we encountered.
And the best part about the whole experience was seeing how my toddler really enjoyed the entire experience. She loves spotting birdies 🙂 Always eager to see the birds and hear them chirping, I think my daughter is beginning to love nature and its creations. And feeding her curiosity is what I can do best right now.
